Major H&S Legal Update

A number of important Health and Safety legislation items will be revoked and replaced next month on 8th December. A total of 6 new sets of Regulations have been published all of which will come into force at the beginning of next month, simultaneously revoking previous legislation.

The new regulations are:

  - The Simple Pressure Vessels (Safety) Regulations 2016 which covers small low pressure vessels,

  - The Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 which cover safety specifications for all pressure equipment,

 - The Lifts Regulations 2016 which set out requirements for installers, manufacturers and importers of lifts and safety components to comply with,

  - The Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2016 which sets out requirements for equipment to be used in certain atmospheres to avoid danger of injury or death,

 - The Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations 2016 which place obligations on importers and manufacturers of certain equipment to ensure it does not interfere with other equipment,

- The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 which set out the application of the Regulations to certain electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits and sets out exceptions to the application of the Regulations for electrical equipment for use in an explosive atmosphere, for radiology and medical purposes, for lifts, electricity meters, plugs and socket outlets for domestic use and certain other equipment.

These Regulations will revoke and replace the current legislation and provide for new requirements for those affected.
