This Directive amends Directive 2012/27/EU on Energy Efficiency (the 2012 Directive).

It updates the scope of the 2012 to extend the target on energy efficiency to 2030, and sets the 2030 headline targets on energy efficiency of at least 32.5 % and paves the way for further energy efficiency improvements beyond those dates.

This Directive lays down rules designed to remove barriers in the energy market and overcome market failures that impede efficiency in the supply and use of energy, and provides for the establishment of indicative national energy efficiency targets and contributions for 2020 and 2030
