Guidance on requirements for release of nuclear sites from radioactive substances regulation

Added on: 22/02/2016

Site operators need guidance on how to clean up decommissioning nuclear sites and be released from the regulatory regime for radioactive substances.

The Environment Agency, Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and Natural Resources Wales are consulting on proposed new guidance for the release of nuclear sites from radioactive substances regulation. This consultation is being managed by SEPA.

The 3 environment agencies are seeking your views on the proposed new guidance. They want to make sure it’s clear about what nuclear site operators need to do to meet their regulatory requirements.

When this consultation has closed they will review and report on the comments they’ve received. They will consider how to act upon these comments and revise the consultation document. They will make the revised document available for a trial period so that practitioners such as nuclear site operators and regulatory officers can test the new guidance and make any further suggestions for improvement.
